Introduction
India China Alliance Centre organised the 1st Educational Tour to China for MBA/IT Students and Faculty Members from India’s Premier Business Schools and Colleges of Engineering. This Tour (25 November - 4 December, 2007) was jointly led by Ms. Neha Juneja, Final Year Student of the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi and Prof. Ashoke Kumar Dutta, Director, Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management, Kolkata. This unique Group of Students and Faculty Members visited three Chinese Cities - Beijing, Shenyang and Shanghai. The Mission was officially hosted by the Shenyang Information Industry Bureau, Liaoning Province, The People’s Republic of China.
China’s economic success over the last two decades has attracted world’s attention and has been the subject of many an article in the international media. Reactions to China’s performance have varied from astonishment to disbelief. In India, some view China as a manufacturing giant that would soon conquer India’s domestic market. Others are dismissive of China’s success saying that it is based on investment and marginal pricing, not sustainable factors in the long term. The fact, however, remains that China is the fastest growing economy in the World. The fact also remains that India is the second fastest growing economy in the World.
Against this backdrop, this 10 day programme offered excellent opportunities for the Group members to see what makes the Chinese tick, draw parallels with our own style of functioning and return enriched with learnings.
The primary objective of the tour would be to familiarise the Students and the Faculty members with the rapid changes taking place in China across sectors and geographical locations. The secondary objective of this tour is to convert this Educational Tour to China into regular 8-12 week International Internship Programmes for Indian MBA students in Shanghai from 2008 onwards in partnership with “International Internship Shanghai” of Shanghai Overseas Talent Service Centre. This Centre enjoys the support of Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and East China Normal University.
