Proposal

India China Alliance Centre (ICAC) is an organisation which focuses on promoting Sino-Indian bilateral trade, investment and cultural co-operation. It has strong linkages with mainland China across provinces on the economic, business, trade and cultural front. The India China Alliance Centre was officially launched on 30th October, 2003 in New Delhi in the presence of Mr. A.K Thakur, the then Joint Secretary (East Asia), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India and Mr. Hao Kang Li, Vice Mayor, Chengdu Municipal Government, Sichuan Province, The People’s Republic of China.

During the last seven years, ICAC has received a number of ministerial and business delegations from China and has also organised several focused Missions to China to promote bi-lateral cooperation in the area of Higher and Technical Education, IT and ITeS and Agriculture/ Horticulture and Food Processing. We have recently organized a Mission for the Province of Nagaland focusing on Youth Resources and Sports and also Women Development. We are in the process of organizing another mission in August/ September 2010 on Parks and Gardens, Floriculture and Social Forestry in the Province of Yunnan. China, as you would be aware, has made rapid strides in the field of agriculture, horticulture and food processing. Massive export of mushrooms, fresh and processed fruits and vegetables from China are just two examples. Against this background and encouraged by the success of our earlier four Agriculture, Horticulture and Food Processing Mission to China in April 2007;October 2008; April 2010 and September 2010, we are pleased to announce the 5th Agriculture/ Horticulture and Food Processing Mission to China from Saturday,  23  – Sunday, 31 July, 2011.

The 9 day programme (eight nights) would be specially relevant for those engaged in and/ or interested in production, processing and marketing of Fruits and Vegetables, Post Harvest Technologies, Seeds; Bio-Technology and Organic Farming. Visits to the Weifang (Shouguang) Scientific Academy; Shenyang Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Beijing would be of special interest to the State Governments and Vice Chancellors / Professors / Students of Agriculture Universities from India.

During the entire visit, mission members’ key areas of interest could be:

  1. Frozen Vegetables
  2. Canned Fruits and Vegetables
  3. Fruit Juices and Concentrates
  4. Ready to eat Vegetables and Fruits
  5. Vegetables: Green Peas, Carrots, French Beans, Baby Corn, Spinach, Sweat Corn and Lady Finger
  6. Fruits: Papaya, Strawberry, Litchi, Peaches and Pears
  7. Green House Cultivation - Tomatoes, Capsicum and Cucumber
  8. Technology to Grow, Cultivate, Process, Preserve and Pack
  9. Technology for Manufactured Seeds for Fruits and Vegetables (Mentioned above)
  10. Emerging Technologies for Agricultural Equipments for sowing and harvesting
  11. Emerging Technologies for Post Harvest Processes

The key objective of the mission would be to identify areas of Sino-Indian trade and technology co-operation in the field of Agriculture / Horticulture and Food Processing.

Senior officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, APEDA, NHB, Department of Bio-Technology, Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture and Food Processing as also Industries at the State level, Agri Corporations and Marketing Federations, Vice-Chancellors/ Professors of Agricultural Universities across India, CEOs & Directors of Indian Companies engaged in Agri Business and Progressive Farmers are being invited to join the mission. The list is illustrative only.

We have evolved an attractive package of Rs.1, 60, 000/- per person for the 9 day (8 nights) tour. The package shall include:

Till October, 2003, I was heading the East Asia Representative office of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) out of Shanghai. During my stint with CII for nearly two decades from 1984-2003,I have held several senior positions such as Regional Director-North India, Senior Director-Trade Fairs as also Head-CII International. I hold a Masters Degree in History from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University and was educated at St. Xavier’s Collegiate School, Kolkata.

As Regional Director of CII (Northern Region) from 1993-2001, I have had privilege of organising the first four editions of Agro-Tech (North India’s premier biennial Agro Technology Fair) which had Israel and Australia as the Partner Country in 1994 and 1996 respectively. I have also organised several Agri Missions to different parts of the World including Australia, Israel, Europe, USA and Canada under the banner of CII.
