Dr. Chumben Murry holds a Masters Degree in Medicine (Obstetrician and Gynecologist). He was in the Government Service in the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, till he retired in September 2007 to join politics.
He is presently Cabinet Minister in-charge of Agriculture of the Province of Nagaland (He was elected to the 11th Nagaland Legislative Assembly in 2008) As Minister for Agriculture his focus is on developing scientific application in farming and upscaling post harvest management, notably value addition, preservation and processing of agriculture and horticulture produce.
The district from which he hails, which is also his constituency, is noted for production of many varieties of fruits, such as citrus, banana, litchi and pineapple and is famous for vegetable production too.
He is looking forward to the China visit to gain first hand knowledge on how China manages its modern post harvest systems.
